Federal Minister of Health, Gov Ambode, First Lady of Lagos and NCC applaud MTN Foundation’s distribution of 1,500 hearing aids

The MTN Foundation (MTNF) has been commended by various stakeholders for keeping to its promise to the people of Lagos State, by providing relief in the form of 250 hearing aids to people hard of hearing (HOH). The distribution of these hearing aids began with 5 other states namely Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Anambra and Katsina.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Lagos State, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by Dr. Olufemi Olubayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the Governor on Primary Health Care, said,

“Today’s gesture by the MTN Foundation to the people of Lagos State is a remarkable one. Hearing disability is a major challenge in our society and this is why the Lagos State government is happy that MTN Foundation has decided to empower such people amongst us to achieve and even surpass their potential in life.”
Also speaking at the event, the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode commended MTN Foundation for maintaining a clear lead in diligently fulfilling its promises to Nigerians through its numerous CSR projects.
“MTN Foundation has always walked tall in the execution of its CSR projects delivering socially impactful initiatives in vital sectors like education, health and economic empowerment. Needless to say, MTNF has greatly improved the quality of life of these beneficiaries by providing them with these hearing aids. We are immensely grateful for this gesture.”
Lending credence to the initiative, Lagos Zonal Controller of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr. Okechukwu Aninweke, lauded the MTN Foundation for its continued efforts in giving back to the society through activities that have genuinely impacted individuals and communities across the country positively.
“The activities of the MTN Foundation are numerous and they have huge positive impact on people and communities across the country. We commend them for being relentless and consistent over the years.”
Aninweke, also used the medium to call on stakeholders from the various tiers of government, community dwellers and the general public to desist from activities that can disrupt the activities of the telecom operators in the country.
“We must stand up and join the telecom operators to kick against issues of vandalism, multiple taxation, over-regulation and theft of their equipment. These activities can disrupt their operations and prevent them from rendering services that are beneficial to the entire nation.”
The beneficiaries of the hearing aids devices are those who emerged successful after the audiometric assessment conducted by certified ENT nurses and doctors. The beneficiaries are now proud owners of top of the range hearing aids devices.

MTN Foundation has also partnered with International Center for Prevention of Deafness and Rehabilitation of Hearing Impaired Persons (ICPDRHIP), to help in the fitting and post review activities of the hearing aids given to the beneficiaries. This is to ensure sustainability that will give maximum value and impact of the devices to the beneficiaries.
